I was shocked by Jeb's callous remarks and I imagine a majority of voters were also. And he doubled down on the comment when the reporter who asked the question later gave him another chance. When she asked if that is how he meant to say it, he replied that maybe he could have said "things happen?" and sounding perturbed by the reporter's question, added, "Is that better?"
As appauling as his words and tone were to me and others I have talked to, I can't imagine being a parent of one of the dead students and hearing him say that and the way he said it.
I guess his uncaring comment echos the Republican idea that human life is priceless . . . until it is actually born and becomes a real person . . . once born, it is disposable in many ways including at the hands of an insane gunman while pursuing your education.
