Going for the gold

Hey all. Olympics kick off Friday in London, and just wondering how interested folks are. I'm not as into it this time as I usually am, but I imagine my interest will perk up once things get rolling.

Curious about the favorite events of guys here. Usual gay favorites are swimming, diving and gymnastics. My favorite from the eye candy POV is wrestling, though not a whole lot of that gets shown. Rowing is another I like.

Any others?

  • Haven't seen all *that* many sports yet, but hottest guy I've seen so far is a water polo player for Montenegro. Kind of scruffy, a little bit furry, and BUILT. Don't know the guy's name, but nice. :)

  • i guess i'm the only freak who likes synch diving... something about how two guys can match their movements closely... and prolly the one remaining sport where the men are in skimpy suits... lotche and phelps are hot numbers but damn... bike-style swim shorts?

  • I really enjoyed the opening ceremony. I hope that all viewers in other countries found things to enjoy as well - some things could be baffling to non-Brits but hopefully the TV commentators used their briefing notes to be able to explain stuff to their own national audiences. For us to see the Queen with James Bond was amazing and no-one would ever have expected something like that. At the end of the ceremony I felt proud to be British! I'm looking forward to 2 weeks of wonderful sporting performances in the spirit of the Olympics and I hope the UK can welcome all the people who have travelled here to spectate.

  • There is ABSOLUTELY NO POINT in "going for the Gold because, according to our most noble president, we all know that "none of us have gotten where we are by ourselves". Perhaps those metals will just become some more communal property to be re-distributed to those athletes who have gained a silver, or ONLY a bronze metal. So shoot for the silver, guys, someone will just GIVE U the gold. lmao!

What a load of crap this president feeds us. Anyone read Animal Farm lately?

  • probably will watch Men's Diving and Gymnastics. May watch some Men's track/field because that's greatest opportunity to catch a shot of jockstap. lol Other than that, they can take the Olympics (and MOST other sporting events for that matter) and stuff them.

  • I would assume that all the favored U.S. made-for-TV sports -- swimming, gymnastics, track -- will be taped to be shown in prime time here in the U.S. But if you like other sports, there should be a feast of them on live during the day, as NBC will be utilizing its many cable channels to show sports in the daytime.

  • I enjoy sports when I can see things life (enjoy hockey, baseball). I must admit that I have never been to any other game...

What turns me off with so much of professional sports is the big money that is too bountiful. I am turned off with play unions such as with professional baseball.

With olympics I think there is too much concern by too many people about how many gold medals the US wins compared to other countries (back when the USSR was still around that was a major area of interest). The mega billions that are represented by "The Olympics" tends to really cause me to be disinterested.

"The Olympics" remind me of "The Election" - way too much money involved. When an olympic athlete has to have 5 or 6 coaches and people with special degrees to improve performance "The Olympics" lose my interest... real fast.

But, like bearinfw's comment - I do enjoy the eye candy - the close ups of some hot guy being interviewed on TV standing there in his swim shorts and a nice bulge prominently on display... and so many other nice eye candy pictures! Now, THAT gets my attention real quick (when I see it). Love the soccer contests as there is a lot of action on the field and THE action I "feel" just by watching those guys is a real attention grabber!

  • I guess with the time change things will be on very early or taped. I'm curious to see if Michael Phelps breaks any records. Between the Queens Jubilee, Wimbledon, The British Open, and now the Olympics England is having a banner year for tourist. I hope things go off without a hitch.
