Oprah's interview with Lance Armstrong

Oprah called this her most important interview ever, and I imagine it is, because it is breaking a major news story.

I watched Part 1 last night. Part 2 will be on tonight.

Oprah once was a TV newsperson, but that was like 35 years ago. Since then, she's mainly done celebrity fluff pieces. On the whole, I thought she did a decent job with Lance. She didn't shy away from asking him hard questions. My only criticism would be that she too often fell into women's interview world and asked him about his feelings.

Anyway, if you missed the first part, it may well be on again today on OWN, and the second part is worth taking a look at.

Armstrong, to his credit, doesn't come off as *too* self-serving. So all in all, it's an interesting interview.

  • There will be years of courtroom action relating to the times he sued people for defamation and the endorsement contract stuff he signed, etc. I suspect that Lance still loves himself too much for the suicide way out. He is the consumate liar and probably lies to himself as well, so there is no compass, no conscience to keep him up at night.

My 15 minutes of fame came several years ago when I rode part of the Register's Annual Bike Ride Across Iowa with Lance Armstrong. This was at the height of his Live Strong campaign to fund cancer research.

Jimmy Fallon had a one liner the other night saying maybe now that Lance is no longer on the drugs, his name should be changed to Lance Armregular.

I wonder if the drugs were, in part at least, the cause of his cancer.

  • Watching the news this morning and the best line came from Jimmy Kimmel. Where ever a tear fell, a new muscle grew.

  • I DVR'ed it and watched the first 45 min of it. After the first few questions of yes and no questions I started to think "well there's nothing else to ask". I'll probably watch the rest while I'm on the treadmill and tape the second part just in case, but he basically at this point is a bore. Cute, but boring. I wonder what lies ahead for him? Will he have the balls to take what comes or will we read that it was just to overwhelming to bear and he committed suicide?
