NFL teams reportedly ask draft prospects questions about sexual orientation

This is sad but shouldn't be surprising, I guess. The NFL may talk about not discriminating, but the culture in pro sports locker rooms hasn't changed.

  • And it further shows just why there has yet to be a male in a major pro team sport in the U.S. come out during his playing days. This story seems to indicate that it isn't just other players who are homophobic.

Because of this, I have long thought that whatever man finally does break the barrier is going to have to be a star player. The average player, or a guy on the end of the bench, has too much to lose. If the star QB came out, the team isn't going to cut him.

  • I wish I can be optimistic as the professor, but when I read the article I get a real sense of discrimination. It just blows my mind that these organizations can actually ask those questions. If you're a young man trying to get in the league, you're not going to tell them to mind their own business. This is a great example of the outright bigotry that exists in the country--it's truly disheartening.

  • Yeah, spanprof, and the Republican party really wants more liberated women, blacks, Latinos and gays to vote too! LOL

    That'll be the day!
