U.S. soccer player comes out, announces retirement

It's a shame this guy felt he had to retire as soon as he came out. Now, he wasn't a star player by any means and was probably near the end of his career anyway, but it continues to be a stain on sports that male athletes in team sports do not feel they can be out and continue in their sport.

  • You would hope that both decisions were independently made. Reading his full letter it almost feels like it, but considering the Football Association's response, it looks as the powers that be view it differently, and it was nice of the Association to leave Rogers the option to reconsider. However the pessimist in me thinks maybe the Association was only being PC in its response? I'd hope not.

Good for Rodgers as you could see it was causing a lot of inner turmoil; hopefully, as time moves forward, he'll be feeling and doing much better.
