Ironic that the queen signed off on it?

  • She didn't actually block it. But apparently she's supposed to sign off on laws that pass Parliament. So Parliament passed it and she agreed.

  • I believe that brings the total to 17 countries now, if you count these as two:

In Europe: England, Wales, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Spain and Portugal.

Elsewhere: South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

U.S. is being comparatively slow to join the bandwagon.

  • Well, BearinFW, we are getting closer, little by little to the fulfillment of your wish. If and when you can legally get married to a life partner who is your best friend... I want to dance at your wedding.

  • How ironic that a country that has been so intolerant of homosexuality in the past should have its monarch approving of gay marriage. I suppose if it's OK for her grandson to romp naked on video it's OK for the sodomites to get hitched. I just think that Liz thought that she needed to jump on the universal bandwagon.
