Senate approves ENDA

A symbolicly important vote in the Senate today. It's encouraging that 10 Republicans voted in favor of the bill to end workplace discrimination. However the bill is DOA in the House. I would urge any of you who live in House districts represented by Republicans to vote against your incumbent. It's vital that change happen in the House. I know I'll be voting against my do-nothing, Rep. Joe Barton. I wrote to tell him how upset I am by the do-nothing House and got no response, of course.

  • Smoothbod, the issue I have (well, the main one) with the current version of the U.S. House is its absolute refusal to govern. They take even the most important, and usually pro-forma, legislation, like the debt ceiling, and take it to the limit every single time. They won't compromise about *anything.* They're behaving like a bunch of kids who picked up the ball and went home because they can't get their way.

They're a record-setting embarrassment, and they are hurting the American public. No matter your political persuasion, we have to have a functioning government. We don't right now, and most of the blame for that rests with the Republicans in the U.S. House.

And TXholdup, I agree with a point you sort of made regarding Fox News. Right-wing radio and Fox News have been an absolute disaster for the Republican Party. All they do is tell conservatives what they want to hear, and the result is that many of them have just simply lost touch with reality. A lot of the Tea Party is living in this Right-wing Fantasy World.

  • The Onion or some similar website which posts spoofs ran a story that Obama personally funded an Islamic militant center. The very next day FOX included it their news as if it were real.

I will be voting in the Republican primary next year so I can vote against Pete Sessions. He is being teapartied and the candidate is an African-American woman.

  • Smoothbod, I totally tolerate traditional Republican views, they are the loyal opposition when Democrates are in power and we Democrats serve that purpose when the GOP is in power. But with the Teapartiers there is a whole new rash of idiocy (ignorance) and falsehoods (lies) that MUST be denounced. Here, for example are just a few of the lies being told by Teafreaks about our President:

    Conspiracy Theories About Our President

Obama is a secret Muslim: This one began right after he took the stage at the 2004 Democratic convention, with chain emails alleging his "true" religious affiliation. The rumor soon found its way onto the popular conservative online forum Free Republic, and took on a whole new life in the years to come. Related: Obama secretly speaks Arabic, attended a madrassa as a kid in Indonesia, referred to "my Muslim faith" in an interview, and was sworn in on a Koran. Totally false.

Obama is bringing 100 million Muslims to America: Avi Lipkin and his PR outfit Special Guests claimed to have evidence of a scheme to bring roughly 100 million Muslims from the Middle East into the United States, converting the country into an Islamic nation by the end of Obama's second term and making it easier to obliterate Israel. Funny if it wasn't so fear-filled. Fear of all aliens and all alien religions is a trademark of the Tea Party radicals.

Obama once aided the mujahideen: Harlem pastor and professional race-baiter James David Manning contended that in his younger days, Obama went undercover as a CIA agent to facilitate the transfer of cash and weapons to the Afghan mujahideen in the '80s, thereby aiding what would become the Taliban. President Obama was a student during those years, first at a college in Los Angeles ('79-'81) and then transferred to Columbia U. in New York ('81 - '83). Then he attended Harvard Law School from 1988 to 1991, so when did he have time or the wherewithall to become an agent for the Taliban. This is the same Taliban, btw, that he keeps killing off their leaders with drone strikes. Heh, he must have changed his mind about them huh? LOL

Obama redecorated the Oval Office in Middle Eastern style: Driven by his fierce sense of anti-American interior design, Obama got rid of the red, white, and blue decoration scheme in his White House office. Not true.

Obama married a Pakistani guy: World Net Daily correspondent and conspiracymonger extraordinaire Jerome Corsi posted a video in which he claimed to have "strong" evidence that Obama was once married to his college roommate from Pakistan. The smoking gun: Photos of the chums in which the future president is "sitting about on the [Pakistani roommate's] lap." Related: For years Obama wore a gold ring on his left hand. Was it his gay-wedding ring? Such a fucking lie augmented with PhotoShop and more lies.

Obama's ring has a Koranic verse on it: The very same ring, which Obama now wears as his (straight) wedding band, is allegedly emblazoned with a key phrase in the Islamic declaration of faith: "There is no god except Allah." (It's not.)

These are just a FEW of the hundreds of lies being spread about out President. How can a level-headed person respect that kind of character assasination of our leader? No, I don't like lies and will continue to shed light, when I can, on the vermin that utter such crap!

  • That's the problem in the GOP right now. With very few exceptions, such as Susan Collins, even "moderate" Republicans toe the party line. We've seen that with a few of our female Texas Republicans -- Kay Bailey Hutchison, Kay Granger. They talk like a moderate, but if you look at their voting record, they're about as extreme as Ted Cruz. Get rid of the whole lot.

  • I'll be calling my GOP congressman about lots of issues. To his credit, he voted to end the government shutdown and he has shown himself to be more moderate than the Teafreaks want him to be, but for the most part, he votes the conservative way on social issues and to keep the extremely wealthy individuals and corporations in total control.
