Utah says it won't recognize the approximately 1,000 same-sex marriages that have already been performed.
I'm not sure that this is a legally defensible position, even if Utah were to ultimately win this case. California has already set precedent that once a marriage is legally performed, it should be a legal marriage.
BTW, the name of this case is Herbert v. Kitchen. It has the potential to be the most important gay rights case ever to go before the Supreme Court. Look for it to get there in 2015 or 2016.

Since the Supreme Court already legalized marriage in California, I don't see why they won't legalize it in Utah. It would make them all look like Hippocrates. They should just save time and make it legal in all 50 states.
