Kerry condemns Russia's invasion of Crimea

OK, any doubts left about Vladimir Putin being a VERY BAD man? He may be a little better at PR than some of the Soviet dictators but that's about the only difference.

Apparently what's going on is that Putin and Russia are using the political instability in the Ukraine to take back formerly Russian territory that was given to Ukraine by Kruschev back in the 1950s/60s. Russia is already estimated to have 15,000 troops on the ground in Crimea.

Already today, Putin asked the Russian Parliament for permission to occupy the Crimean peninsula and to withdraw Russia's ambassador to the U.S.

Anyway, as bad as things are, they could get worse, and here's hoping Russia does not do a full-scale invasion of the Ukraine.

I don't think there's much the West could do about it other than economic sanctions.

And, the right wing in this country is so blinded by its hatred of Obama that some are actually blaming Obama for the Russian invasion!

Oh well, these are the same people who think Russia is just wonderful for forbidding gay people from any openness or possibly even taking their children away.

I wish all these nuts would just move to Russia. They'd be welcome over there and we wouldn't miss them and their unpatriotic hatred over here.

  • How Do Republicans Feel Now About Their Recent Hero-Worshiping Of Vladimir Putin?

I wonder if there are some Republicans and conservative pundits out there today who are having some regrets. Back in September 2013, there was a lot of turmoil and disagreement going around regarding President Obama possibly looking towards a military resolution to the crisis in Syria. Many Democrats and liberals were against any military action due to basic ideology and the fact that the nation was suffering through war fatigue. However, it appeared that conservatives were against it simply because of their hatred for all things related to Obama.

Therefore, when Russian President Vladimir Putin wrote an op-ed for the New York Times, many on the right rallied around the former KGB agent and asked that Obama follow Putin’s lead. In his column, Putin asked that the United States respect the United Nations and follow the advice of the Security Council (which Russia is a part of) and practice caution on any action related to Syria. Putin also stated that peaceful dialogue and diplomacy should be utilized first and foremost and that military action should only occur with a consensus of other nations.

At that time, you had members of the right-wing in this country go ga-ga over Putin. Pundits like Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, Erick Erickson and Sean Hannity were praising the Russian President for his stance. Other Republicans like Pat Buchanan and Ralph Peters claimed that Putin was providing the type of leadership that the US apparently lacked at that moment. Basically, if you tuned into Fox News or talk radio during that time, you got a whole lot of Putin hero-worshiping.

  • The West is very weak in this situation since they did nothing when Russia invaded Georgia several years ago. Half of the natural gas used in Western Europe is supplied by Russia. While the Russian ruble is plunging making all imports much more expensive the price of oil and gas, both in abundant supply in Russia is spiking. Economic sanctions don't phase Putin who apparently thinks he is Peter the Great reborn.
