Putin's Russia: Intolerant and proud of it

Pretty creepy stuff in the new "Cultural Policy" that is being prepared for Putin to sign as a statement of Russia's beliefs and direction.

They come right out and say they "reject multiculturalism and tolerance." Did the religious right help write these, too?

Anyway, I don't see why any gay Westerners would spend our money traveling to Russia or having anything to do with the country. Go where we're wanted. And Russian food sucks anyway :)

  • At one time I wanted to visit Russia, even before the Communist experiment failed, but now that they have a Republican dictator and are enshrining hate of human differences, I wouldn't visit Russia for any reason whatsoever.

What I fear most, having lived through the nuclear-war-scares of the 50s, 60s & 70s, is that our military/industrial complex will react to this new recalcitrance with even more demand for weapons development and deployment. We already have established overkill unlike anything in the history of the world while important parts of society have HUGE unmet needs, such as education and infrastructure. Just look at the difference worldwide between Russia (brown color) and the U.S. Yet, fear could trigger even more military spending, to the further detriment of the rest of our society.
