Unknown Tea Party candidate shocks House Majority Leader

This is one of the biggest upsets in recent electoral history and frankly, there is nothing good about it. Shocks like this will continue to scare mainstream Republicans and push the party further and further to the right.

We thought accomplishing anything in the current House was bad. It's only going to get worse, and immigration reform is now completely dead as long as the GOP is in control of the House.

The only minor plus in this, if there is one, is that the further right the GOP goes, the less likely it is that they will win a presidential election. God forbid what might happen if one of these Tea Party types was elected prez with a GOP controlled Congress. I can't imagine what a disaster that would be for the country.

  • This was certainly a big shock. But perhaps it is pushing them so far to the right that they will actually lose votes in the Presidential election. it does show how big an issue immigration reform and both parties should take note, as I'm sure they are. At least we knew that Cantor could and would flip flop and with the recent Tea Party antics I can't believe they will make much headway, altho this will give them a big boost. But it's early and they can easily implode and the extreme right will bring people back closer to the middle.
    No matter what certainly an eye opener and if not a game changer should be a stragegy changer

  • Maybe now normal people will wake up and get out and vote and we can replace these guys including the Tea people. I really struggle that there are that many people that think like they do. Great article on Salon.com about what is happening to the GOP.
