Tuesday was another big day for gay news.
First, the good news: Wyoming gave up the fight and started issuing marriage licenses. The "Equality State," the first to give women the right to vote, is only No. 32 this time around. Now Mary Cheney is legally married when she goes home to visit the folks. On a more serious note, the event also brought back the sad story of Michael Shepard. He played a not-insignificant role in our battle for freedom.

Also, on a sadder note: Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to make an NFL roster (the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad), was waived by the Cowboys on Tuesday without ever playing in an NFL regular-season game. This could well be the end for Michael, as few teams expressed interest after he was cut in August by the Rams. But on a positive note, his stay with the Cowboys at least showed teams that were worried about him being a "distraction" that he isn't at all. After the initial media flurry, he wasn't heard from at all during his stay in Dallas.
Good luck to Michael and hope another team picks him up. If not, he may be able to play in Canada and play his way back into the NFL that way. But whether he does or not, he's had a great impact and has paved the way for more openly gay players in the NFL. He handled it all with patience and class.

News of the Day: Wyoming is No. 32; Cowboys cut Sam
Step by step - State by State, it will happen some day!! But looking back in time when a lot of us were just kids in the 70's. Who would of ever thought back then that Gay marriages would someday be a reality? We have come a long way, baby! And, as the constitute says, Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".
I liked the photos they used in the first article. Good looking couples and one couple kissing. Many media stories about gay marriage seem to pick couples that look strange in some way. This helps balance the visual account. I know, that being obsessed with body image is often a problem, especially for women, but that is not what I am advocating. I am just pleased to see some balance.
