Justice Kennedy make a simple error in his order Wednesday halting gay marriage in Idaho and Nevada.
Seems Nevada did not request a stay, but Kennedy accidentally added the Nevada case number. Since NV didn't ask for the stay, Kennedy didn't have the power to grant it, and he reversed the order later in the day. The stay does still apply to Idaho, which did ask for one.
So Nevada is now headed toward becoming state No. 26. We're about to be over halfway there!
BTW, before the general election in 2012, there were six states that allowed same-sex marriage. So 20 states have been added in only two years!
I suspect that by the time of the election in 2016, that number will be either 50 or VERY close to it.

Oops! Same-sex marriage halted in Nevada by mistake
I doubt the next president will make much difference on the issue of same-sex marriage. The die is cast on that. But he/she will still be incredibly important on *zillions* of other issues.
"Butch Otter is homophobic." Maybe so, but Butch Otter is a great name, did Kurt Vonnegut name him?
From what I can tell, the rulings to watch are the ones to come from the 5th (New Orleans) and 6th (Cincinnati) Circuit Courts. They're considered the most conservative in the country, and if one of those upholds a marriage ban, that would do it.
It would be nice if this Idaho case is the one that forces the court's hand and in one swoop it's a done deal and legal in all 50. I can only hope!
