i get up every morning and play cd's while trying to come alive. i haven't kept up with the current pop scene since about the time of shirley manson and garbage but i keep finding other things i love. i recently came across an anthology series on a foreign label that includes "the songs of ww2", "the love songs of ww2", "the crooners", "ladies of song", "classic country hits" and "big band hits". each is 3 cd's and span a time period of roughly 1930 to 1955.
i also bought the remaining ella fitzgerald songbooks that i didn't have, so i've been listening to them also.
and what are YOU currently listening to?
SO, WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
Growing up in central IL, I was introduced to many types of music. Broadway, classical by mom and aunt. Country, R&B, and rock. Moving to The Chicago area I became a blues and gospel fan. In my car, I got Robert Earl Keene, Mavis Staples, Sam Cooke, and Lynard Skynard. At home I usually have music from the computer, Motown, listened to Woodstock soundtrack. And last night, listend to Paul Robeson kick ass on Old Man River and Joe Hill. But my favorite singer of all time is a gospel singer, Marion Williams. Youtube her. From her house wrecking youth to her soulful old age, she is fantastic. Rolling Stone called her America's greatest living singer. She has since past. LOL and I once past on a Bear game to take a friend of mine and his wife to see the great lyric soprano Leontyne Price at Orchestra Hall. Who'd a thunk that!
The new Matchbox 20 is AMAZING and take a listen to The Black Keys El Camino, also very good. The new Pink album is very impressive as well.
Coming originally from NYC, I have a love for Broadway. Les Miserables and Chorus Line are among my favorites. Streisand is favorite female. Josh Groban and Il Divo for men. Sarah Brightman, Bete Midler, Meat Loaf, Cher, Connie Francis, Queen, Madonna all are right up there, and most stuff from the 60' and 70's.
