does anyone else watch this show on pbs?
it's like watching a car wreck, you can't look away even though you know you should. for those unfamilar with the show, the premise is to turn 4 experts loose at a flea market with $1000. each. they're to find fabulous items that can be auctioned off at the end of the show for bigger profits...EXCEPT, it never works out that way. i don't know where they found these so called experts but every one of the four is too dumb to pour piss out of a boot.
there's miller, a dyed blonde southern belle wannabe who is supposed to be an art expert. she's so dumb, she can't even identify the object that belongs in each category. she spends most of her time flipping her hair and waggling her butt.
then theres john, an aged hippie. he buys crap that's WAY overpriced and then gets shot down on every item, yet still can't figure out what he's doing wrong.
next is kevin, a supposed expert on asian art. twice now, he's bought really bad reproductions and taken it up the wazoo. my favorite was the box that he bought, thinking it might be 17th century and hand painted. it had a picture decoupaged to the top and the auction house refused to even accept it. this was AFTER the idiot examined it with a loup and still didn't know the top was a print.
the token gay is named bob. he spends a lot of time at the gym and he shoots a nice package, but DUMB! i hate to dis a sister but he spends more time sleazing around with a shit eating grin on his face than he does shopping.
i've been buying junk since before i was in grade school and i've been dealing in junk since i was 18. (no one who deals calls them "antiques", it's all junk) put me on that show, i can't be any more stupid than the bunch on there now!
I guess nobody has bothered to expose them, but it's rather obvious that many, many "reality" shows are every bit as real as sitcoms. Or have we reached a point as society that we don't care if we're being duped? Maybe we've come to expect it.
Anyone watch the show (don't remember a title) where these mindless nobodies bid on the contents of storage units that have been abandoned; ostensibly, the contents belong to the owners of the storage compound after these renters have failed to pay rent for some length of time. The hapless bidders are allowed to peek into the open storage units, but they are not allowed to enter them or actually discover what is hiding in the boxes or behind other items. It seems, from viewing maybe 6 of these shows, that these folks make some money one week and lose it the next. Where, one might ask, is the future in that?
