Could You Date A Man Who Was A Woman?

"Let's say you meet a really handsome guy," Lovebeards, a Gay Life forum member, writes. "He looks exactly like a guy, but was born a female. Could you date him?"

Female-to-male transgender/gay male relationships, as complicated as they may seem, are not entirely hypothetical scenarios. They are more common than once may think and are even played out in fictional plot lines. In Showtimes' hypergood series The L-Word, Max Sweeney (played by Daniela Sea) was certain about his transition from female-to-male; but he didn't anticipate falling for a gay man. Would you be open to a relationship with a post-transition man? And what if he's all male, as Lovebeards asks, but has no penis?

  • I have and enjoyed the experience immensely.
I have been privileged to know a number of transgendered men who embody the best, the hottest, and the noblest aspects of what it means to be a man. Through my acquaintance with them I have come to know that being a man isn't simply being born with a penis and I know am a better man because of it.

  • I firmly believe that if sex is the driving factor behind any relationship, it is doomed. To me the mind and personality of the other individual is much more important for a serious relationship than any sexually related activity or ability. We make all kinds of adjustments for the people we love, We always have. We always will.

  • Sure.. Why not? If I like the person's personality and other attributes, I don't see any issues with dating a F2M transperson. Sex, though fun, is not the main objective anyway.. And if you really are into the person, you can find ways to make it work :)

  • I knew a guy who once was a woman. Before I knew he was transgender, I had the hots for him. He was what I thought my ideal male. After I found out (he was transgender), I continued to still have the hots for him. Trouble is, the feeling was not mutual. Not for anything, he just considered himself a straight male and dated only woman and eventually married a woman. Could I? Would I? I guess I could, as long as I didn't smell fish!
