Another Republican Thinks Gays Are Not Equal to Heteros and Dishonors 300 Gay Marriages

Late Friday afternoon, a federal district court struck down Michigan’s ban on marriage equality and chose not to issue a stay that would have left the old law in place. Same-sex marriages, the Reagan-appointed judge ruled, could begin immediately.

And on Saturday morning, that’s exactly what happened, with several clerks going to work on their day off to perform marriages for same-sex couples, now able to enjoy the same rights as other Michigan citizens. The progress, however, was short lived – an appeals court halted the marriages and said Michigan’s law would remain in place during the appeals process. A few days ago, 300 same-sex couples were legally married in Michigan -- complete with a legal state marriage license.

Today, their governor, Republican Rick Snyder, made an announcement on whether he thinks these couples are *still* married.

  • Manjoguy, I also wish we could stop the "Republican this" and the "Republican that," but Republicans keep telling us we deserve to be second-class citizens. It is in the platform they run on. I will NEVER agree to be put down like that by a political party. A national political party, in order to get my vote, needs to support ALL the people of this great nation, without discriminating.

I'm glad that a few gay Republicans are trying to get elected. I hope they win and that party can begin to live up to the Constitution's basic statement that we are "ALL" created equal.

  • I wish we could stop with the "Republicans this, the Republicans that." There are three gay political candidates running as Republicans for U.S. Congress - Rich Tisei (MA.), Carl DeMaio (CA.) and Dan Innis (NH.). Sadly, the Democrats have moved too far to the left (and become too corrupt* and lacking in integrity) to be much use to our constitutional republic. I think we need a new centrist party, but until that happens, we're gonna need some Republicans to halt our march down the road to socialism. [*"Leland Yee, 2 Other Democrats Suspended From CA.
