Well, we don't really have St. Patty's parades down here (except for bar crawl type things).
But I will note from previous responses that I'm not a big fan of commercialized gay pride parades either. But it's a mixed blessing, I guess. Kind of takes away from the spontaneity of the parade, but it does show that commercial interests now value the money that we spend.
I do not like NYC gay parades since it is filled with businesses promoting themselves and people in Speedos making out, with wings, with costumes like it is some Sodom Gomorrah Marci Grad Carnivale in Brazil nonsense.
The parades should be filled with history and information and average people and gay cops, gay jocks, lesbians who are lipstick, gays who are masculine blue collars as well as femme little guys so we get to see a vast range so everyone can see that gays and lesbians are not just fairies with Speedos doing strip pole dancing. The parade should be classy and fun for children. Being gay is not just about sex sex sex, it is about being in love, being accepted and being treated with respect equally.
Anywho, just I attended one and was not amused. But the one I attended in DC was great since it was filled with a lot of everyday gay people and a lot of straight supporters.
