MLK a Republican? I'm Laughing My Fucking Ass Off!

REPUBLICANS CO-OPT MLK DESPITE HISTORY AND REALITY

AMAZING HUBRIS AND STUNNING HYPOCRISY SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT THEIR MORAL BANKRUPTCY

Poor Republicans. If they weren’t actively engaged in the destruction of the middle class, the environment and anything related to making the United States “a more perfect union,” they would actually be quite pitiful rather than the snakes that they are.

But a snake will always be a snake and we can’t expect anything more from Republicans than lies because they have never done anything in modern times that benefits 99% of the people in America. Having nothing to boast about in reality, they have again erected a billboard that disingenuously states that Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican. MLK was no Republican.

It’s really pathetic that Republicans always have to lie about their *ehem* “accomplishments” and sad that the party which opposed EVERY SINGLE THING that MLK stood for is again trying to co-opt his legacy.

The very fact that Republicans had this billboard erected is not just disrespectful the King’s legacy (not that they care) but assumes (rightly so, in the case of Republicans) that the Billboard’s intended viewer will, for the most part, have no concept of history.

This billboard that claims that MLK was a Republican is offensive on so many levels – one being that it politicizes the civil rights leader who made great efforts to remain non-partisan. He wanted to be seen as more of a prophet, than a politician – aligning himself with “causes” not political parties.

To say that MLK was a Republican is an outright and overt distortion of reality – especially since it was the conservatives of his day that attacked civil disobedience against racist laws that were the rule of the land, laws that were morally wrong and fundamentally un-American. Read about how the National Review attacked MLK here. They also labeled him a “communist!” (sound familiar? Republicans are such bores and rarely change their tune.)

Could you just imagine if MLK were alive today and stated,

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death”?(from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 1967 Book “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?“)

Glen Beck would cry and say he “fears for America,” Bill O’Reilly would yell about ‘love it or leave it’ and Ann Coulter’s Adam’s apple would tremble with xenophobic rage!

Normal people (non-Republicans) know that southern blacks before the 1960s aligned themselves with the Republican Party as the “party of Lincoln.” This included MLK’s father who left the party to support John F. Kennedy.

During the 1950s, there were virtually no white Republicans and no Republican office holders in the South. At that time, ‘Republican’ meant ‘Yankee’ and the ‘party of Lincoln.’ And what the “solid south” meant was that it was solidly Democratic, as the Southern Democrats were the party of segregation and the Republicans were the party of Lincoln.

When Barry Goldwater, the Republican nominee, opposed the civil rights bill in the summer of ’64,” African Americans, as well as white normal people, left the Republican Party in droves.

So, the fact that Republicans are now claiming MLK as their own is an outright lie and disgusting, disrespectful sham perpetrated against the willfully ignorant among them.

Will there ever come a day when Republicans can boast about something they have ACTUALLY done without having to lie?

Sadly, as the Republican Party is not the party of “MLK” as they disingenuously purport, but the party of the greed-centered sociopaths, hell-bent on turning “The Land of the Free” into the “United States of Serfs and Lords” and their willfully ignorant “everyman” supporters who have been systematically propagandized to believe that indentured servitude to trans-national corporations equals (=) freedom, the answer to that question is a resounding “no!”

  • Meanwhile ... not one single Republican is appearing this week at the March on Washington anniversary celebration. Now, admittedly, only four were asked (more undoubtedly should have been), but all four of those declined. They couldn't get one person to give up a day or two?

And Tophole, every year the GOP platform has become more and more about placating fundamentalist Christians and Wall Street types. They long ago gave up on minority voters, and now they've even bailed on the middle class, too. They don't have anything close to a winning combination. White men, fundies and the wealthy aren't close to enough anymore.

They can't even keep the Tea Party happy.

The GOP will remain a political force because of the way population is distributed and because they have drawn so many state and U.S. House district lines. But things don't look good at all for them in presidential elections. About the only way for them to win is with a major scandal or economic crash, and then eke out wins in Ohio and Florida, as Bush did. They really do have that limited a path to the White House.
