Poll: This is How You Fix Congress!

I truly get annoyed when others pass on ‘Forwards’ that are blanketed indiscriminately; what I call “EClips Publishing.” That said I received something you too might have gotten. A friend sent it to me ‘using my name’ and writing a note: “I know, I know. But, I really think this is important.” I read it, I agreed, and thanked him for it. I offer it to you if you are interested.

I REPORT, YOU DECIDE.
The BUFFETT Rule
We must support this - pass it on and let’s see if these idiots understand what people pressure is all about.
Salary of retired US Presidents .. . . . .. . . . . $180,000 FOR LIFE
Salary of House/Senate members .. . . . .. . . .$174,000 FOR LIFE This is stupid
Salary of Speaker of the House .. . . . .. . . . . $223,500 FOR LIFE This is really stupid
Salary of Majority/Minority Leaders . . .. . . . . $193,400 FOR LIFE Ditto last line
Average Salary of a teacher . . .. . . . .. . . . . ..$40,065
Average Salary of a deployed Soldier . . .. . . ..$38,000

I think we found where the cuts should be made! If you agree pass it on, as I just did.
Warren Buffet, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:
"I could end the deficit in five minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election".

The 26th Amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only three months and eight days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2015
1. No Tenure / No Pension.  A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
2. Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/15. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people, then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Don't you think it's time?
THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

If you agree, pass it on. If not just pass it by.

  • desertrat1, I agree. I wrote the following for my discussion group. It’s semi-relevant regarding the Supreme Court and the impending decision of universal marriage.

One of the main perversive decision of our time was the determination on ‘Citizen’s United.’ Corporations are given the same rights as people. So, the people who make up a corporation still have an equal right as everyone else… but, now, a bit more. The bits become larger as their political contributions increase. This is because of the second perversion that proceeded the main one. The courts’ decided that ‘Money is Speech’ and therefore it’s use in politics must be free-rained and may be held secret as in the right of a secret ballot: (Wikipedia def: The secret ballot is a voting method in which a voter's choices in an election or a referendum are anonymous, forestalling attempts to influence the voter by intimidation and potential vote buying. The system is one means of achieving the goal of political privacy.) This can and has been made ambiguous by perverting this ‘protection from influence‘ to a ‘protection for the use of influence.’ The expressing of free thought is free speech. However, the methods by which one can express their ideas are financially based. ‘If the law makes it legally possible to buy up the air through which sound is transmitted, then if the air is all purchased- it matters little whether a sound is produced or not? The result is silence.’

Abraham Lincoln: “We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” Our main reason for voting has turned into an attempt to choose who gets to select judges… That is the president and members of both houses of congress. As the theory goes, our justices were set up to be apolitical and to be secured in this by a life time tenure. The proof and reality against this concept is the overwhelming decisions that are made along ideological party lines. If there is a place called hell, one hopes there is a nice little warmer spot for those black robed magistrates who have perverted their honor-bound, honored and substantially awarded lifetime honorariums. The judiciary is symbolized by ‘Blind Justice‘, a legal concept regarding the neutrality of the dispensing of justice as defined by the law. To justify a completely political decision the justices pervert the meaning of the laws in question. The scale itself that is being held may well be technically balanced, but the weight of the coinage being added to one side or the other is not. The false remedy is to allow coinage to be added to both sides as the judges have ruled. This makes justice dependent on who has more weighty coinage. Until no money in any way, shape or form, may be allowed to influence the three branches of government or any other publicly funded office there is no equality under the law. (Unless all are equal, none are equal.)

April 15th has now passed… We have paid to keep our ship of state well fueled and somewhat seaworthy. The court holds the maps, compasses, astrolabes, and calipers. They determine who may have access to them and how they may be used. The congress is in charge of how, where, and when to spend the propellant. Lastly, the presidential office mans the helm of this most unwieldy flagship of the world’s flotilla. Our technically complicated mega-ship requires the help of countless specialists. ‘We the People’ make up the passengers and crew. We are the reason the ship exists, the method by which the structure is kept intact, and we are housed on many decks of cabins ranging from the few large suites high up on the promenade deck with broad balconies and views to the mass of intertwining cubicles below sea-level. Being that each of us has the choice to sail on or bail off of the craft with no place to go- this choice has little meaning. We know and are continually told that we make the whole thing work. Therefore we the people at large need and need to demand equal status. Will the justices choose this equality in 2015 or will their decision be made with political, financial, and religious leanings. We may find that it is just more expedient for the justices to make this a slave ship once again as it was at the beginning in 1776 with the unconscionably compromise that our founding fathers allowed. We can only hope the judges will choose otherwise more out of right than in fear of a mutiny.

  • Great formula to get the USA back on track - but it can't happen without a total economic and political collapse, or until the USA starts a major war we will lose. In addition to the Buffet rule, let's begin with campain finance reform : Like a candidate can't take money from anyone that can't vote for them. Electronic balloting MUST go, too. (So it takes a week to learn who honestly won.( Took W Bush's thugs longer than that to rig the Florida ballots- and nobody complained about the delay.) However long it takes to get an honest and accurateresult is not "too long". And while we're at it, let's include a "neither of the above" option to force both parties to nominate really "electable" candidates. Let's outlaw "lobbiests" entirely. Why should ANY elected official be influenced (corrupted) by anyone except their constituents? Geez! The Us public would be better served by a Drug Cartel - than we have been for the past 70 years!

  • Although this would save Uncle Sam some money, I don't think it would fix Congress. I'd pay them based on a sliding scale of how much they actually accomplished. The last Congress wouldn't have been paid anything.

But considering that most people in Congress are wealthy, even that probably wouldn't make a difference.

  • Makes little or no sense to me. Why would I want to not pay someone for doing a job? The only ones who would run for office would be the wealthy and their cronies. If we want to fix something let's start with the banks and Wall Street. Why should I be concerned about what Warren Buffet wants he is a billionaire and like his fellow billionaires he wants to protect what he has. We are always told that the problems are the poor(welfare fraud) and the working class(unions). When are we going to wake up to the fact that it is not either of these but the banking class?
