Still.... None are equal until all are equal.

The Treasury Department said Thursday (August 29, 2013) that legally married same-sex couples must now file joint tax returns, granting them all the tax benefits — but also the same tax penalty — that other married couples enjoy.
The ruling applies to all legally married gay couples, even if they have moved and now live in states that don’t recognize those unions. And the department said couples can go back and request refunds for 2010, 2011 and 2012 based on their newly recognized status.

  • The government needs to make marriage of same sex couples legal in all 50 states!

  • Less separate and more equal is a progression not a goal. At this time, last year none of the LGBT ‘equal’ rights that we recently gained were imaginable. We must guard ourselves from being perpetually negative causing self-fulfilling prophecies. That said, it is altogether wise to be skeptical in our world and to be reasonably on-guard. Without being paranoid, it is even possible to have our own anonymous right-wingers (or ones who say they are from our community) hysterically accusing others while hiding in the shadows of anonymity and by blocking any counter discussion. That is even found here in some DD blogs. We must use their opinion... and all opinions as a catalyst to research and seek out the truths to develop intelligent judgements. I have personally found some accusations here @ DD Blogs to consist of more hole than cheese resulting in barely enough essence to make the cheese recognizable. That too is part of equality.

  • You know it's progress when the IRS gets involved in making a change that benefits tax filers, especially GLBT tax filers.

  • Well, I'm glad they're making progress on implementing the Supreme Court ruling. I'm sure the new rules are a mile thick, and the stories aren't clear what this means to couples who live in states that don't allow marriage, go marry in another state and come back home. I *think* they may be covered, but I'm not 100 pct. sure.

And BTW, same-sex married couples don't have to file jointly. But they now will have that option, just like heterosexual couples.
