Debates

The presidential debates are coming up. Who will stand out? Our fearless leader, Mr. Obama? Or the other guy with the funny name, Mitt? Even now our Commander In Chief admits that Romney is the better debater. I would go so far as to say that Mitt is a master debater. And, it is said, that he can go on endlessly. You might even say that he is a chronic master debater. And this must be a serious concern as we decide who shall spend the next four years as the Leader of the Free World. Do we trust Mr. Obama to fulfill his promises of four years ago? Or do we trust some slick talking master debater with hair in the palm of his hands and failing eyesight, and a weird name? You, my brother voters, must decide.

  • Erly, trickle-down government may not work, but it has absolutely been proven that trickle-down economics doesn't. We've had, for the most part, 30 straight years of it, and very little makes its way down the economic ladder.

BTW, I think it's pretty clear Mitt did win the debate, but I think it was more a win based on style than substance.

Mainly, Obama needs to be a lot sharper in upcoming debates. He's professorial by nature, and it would be fake for him to act aggressively like Romney did. But he does need to be more sure of himself and assertive.

  • Obama didn't have any debates during primary season. And honestly, I'll bet he didn't put enough time into preparations for this one. Well, now he knows he wasn't able to just wing it. The lack of practice and preparation definitely showed.

  • Yeah, but I have to ask...WHAT THE FUCK DID ROMNEY SAY?????? NOTHING.. Explain your plans.....tell us where you are going to improve! Tell us how you are going to do this! He didn't explain a single fucking thing. He didn't even explain how his heath care in MA was different from Obama's health care......I can't wait to hear Romney on Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Afganistan, Lybia, Syria, China, North Korea and overseas wars....I CAN NOT WAIT! He has no clue. He wants to bomb the world....he wants his hand on the button to show how powerful HE is. The world is not Baine Capitol! This is going to be good. Personally, I think the President looked worn out tonight. He looked like he had just run a 10k. And Romney looked like his religious undergarments were chaffing him. They both should have taken a week off of the trail and gotten some sleep.

  • I thought Mitt was probably the winner in the style battle. He was more assertive and more aggressive. On content, much closer. Obama, though his performance could have been better, often showed he was thoughtful and thinking through answers, whereas Mitt often seemed like he was just ramming through his talking points. Nonetheless, Obama needs to be sharper in future debates.

One point I think is very clear: Jim Lehrer was in over his head. He's too old for this kind of task, and Mitt, in particular, ran all over him. The moderator job needs to be handled by younger, sharper minds.

  • If I may inject a little levity here - If Romney wins the election. and he being a Mormon. will we have First Ladies? And speaking of the possible First Lady, is she a real woman? I've seen more passable drag queens. And getting back to the religion issue, are we ready for a Mormon in the White House? Why not? The last Republican in the White House was a moron. I just had to get that in. Battle on, brothers!

  • Who here doesn't already know which candidate is getting your vote? Assuming no one, really the debates are silly and just more fodder the for talking heads.

The cynic in me says, "the election is won by those who count the votes". Yes, I believe there is rampant fraud by voting machines, county clerks, and other officials who validate elections. I have no proof, I just believe it.

One more pet peeve of mine... the POTUS is just the elected head of the executive branch (one of 3 branches) of the US government. He is not the "leader of the free world".

Also, let's repeal the 17th amendment to the US Constitution.

  • erlybrd what a crazy comment about Bush not being on the ballot. He destroyed the economy, had thousands of people killed needlessly. You dont need to be on the ballot to have the nation vote against everything you stand for
    gene245te5 10/03/2012 11:11 AM
  • The conservative commentators here either dont read very well or refuse to understand---which is typical of the right wing. They hear only what they have been told by Fox News and Rush Blowhard . Too bad. After tonight I think the nation will soundly reject the robot Romney

  • Liberals? Lies? Benghazi? How about 9/11? What about WNDs in Iraq? Offshore accounts? Investing in China? 47%=veterans,retirees,widows with children. I love how we are the ones listening to lies. What about the we don't have time to explain to you people what we are going to do when we get elected? We don't want to tell you waht we are going to replace the ACA with just trust us we are the good guys. Redistribution? What about the wealth that has moved up the ladder in the last five decades but seemed to have missed the 99% of us? I think the conservatives should continue to hope that one day they can be a waiter in the room with the people they worship and admire.

  • Ok, who do you believe? Mitt Romney keeps changing his views and his actions. Come on, you can't put in place health care in your own state and, in turn, oppose national health care! You can NOT make religion and religious right wing run this country today....it will never work. And you can't make public comments, in "private" and make them go away. The man is a total idiot and would make this country worse off than it is today.

  • WOW! Did I stir up a shit storm or what? What started as a joke has become a serious political discussion. The only point of my blog was to call Romney a jerk off (chronic master debater). Not that there is anything wrong with masturbation. Maybe I should have just called him an asshole, not that there is anything wrong with being fond of a nice posterior orifice. Anyway guys, discuss on. I only wanted to make clear my original intent.

  • I think the answer to Erlybrd question is GEORGE W. BUSH
    gene245te5 10/02/2012 06:36 PM
  • It is difficult to determine exactly what Mitt Romney believes on any of the issues except for one--gay rights. That is the only place where he has not changed his position multiple times. He has no respect for us and feels we have no rights.

Any gay person who is even thinking about voting for Romney should find the movie Latter Days and watch it carefully. It will give you a good idea of what Mitt Romney thinks about you.

  • After living in America for most of my life, it's quite refreshing to be in a country where when an election is called, it happens 30 days later. That's it....30 days to get you point across. I sure don't miss the long drawn out campaigning
    LuvDadsCum 10/02/2012 12:20 PM
  • Consider two issues during this campaign and forthcoming election.

Firstly, consider Obama's past and present platforms regarding gay issues, secondly consider Romney's beliefs and opinions of gay issues.

We are all acutely aware or should be of Obama's gay endorsements. We should be even more acutely aware of Romney's negative beliefs and opinions of gay's in this country. Romney goes on record as not believing we should have any status at all! If Romney assumes the office of President he will set us back 50 years or more in every facet of gay culture...

If you haven't kept abreast of what's happening during their speeches, debates, and polls recently and previously, go back and listen closely to Romney's words, watch his facial expressions and observe his body language as he speaks of gay issues, closely resembling diseased animal trying desparately to escape capture.

Just do the research and think hard before you cast your vote...just sayin

  • ZINGERS!!!! It is all about Zingers. I can't wait to hear specifics and excuses of why Romney is losing. The media? The polls? Be a man and live with the fact that you are not competent to be president and that the people you have hired to listen to are also lame as is the campaign. Sick of Obama so you want more wars and less rights? Time for the Terminator I guess?
    barney290 10/02/2012 10:20 AM
  • I would imagine both will do well. They are so well drilled in advance that it would be a major surprise if either really flubbed it. And don't forget. Mr. Obama is not a bad debater himself.

I still find the debates interesting, even though they aren't likely to make any difference on the outcome. I think the last presidential debates that did were Bush-Gore, or maybe even further back, to Reagan-Carter.

  • I have great respect for our President. One of his best accomplishments was workign for and signing the Wall Street Reform Act. The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (2010) re-regulates the financial sector after its practices caused the Great Recession. The new law tightens capital requirements on large banks and other financial institutions, requires derivatives to be sold on clearinghouses and exchanges, mandates that large banks provide “living wills” to avoid chaotic bankruptcies, limits their ability to trade with customers’ money for their own profit, and creates the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (now headed by Richard Cordray) to crack down on abusive lending products and companies.

Now, the same party that caused the Great Recession with 8 years of trickle-down and deregulation wants back in power to throw that law out.

I will be voting for President Obama because he stands up against big banks and big corporations and big money. When they were unregulated, their greed took over and swamped the economy.

  • HISBI: Obama had Three years and eight months to "fulfill his promises, 2 of those years he owned the white house and BOTH house of the Congress. I think he got way in over his head, made promises to that he couldn't keep and exhausted the Bush blame game--well, maybe not, becasue he is so damn adept at shifting responsibility to others.

I voted for him, and I, for one, am totally tired of his act!

All that not withstanding, I don't know why Mitt Romney would want the pile of shit he is going to hand off. I do think that O will most likely win (just look at those stupid and irresponsible videos that came out of Cincinnati (big fat young woman who was saying "Obama gave us free cell phones, maybe we can get free gas, and hopefully he'll cancel our mortages"). It points to some people who actually expect "something for nothing"--O is right up their alley with his redistribution of wealth agenda. What drivel!

EVERYONE will be looking over their shoulders and asking "what the hell happened in this country" and it will be too fucking late!

  • The debates are a meaningless exercise in futility. For me, I will learn nothing new by listening to them.

I have found other means to be better informed about issues - just about ANYTHING appearing on television concerning this election is flawed from front to end. There is media bias, ad bias, and talking heads with bias.

We have six issues to be determined in Michigan and a lot of other candidates to select and place into office. I count on the newspaper for a run down on the candidates and the issues. They will run a final review of everything that will appear on the ballot just a few days before the Nov 6 election... I have learned that even reading about the issues off the internet is slanted one way or the other - just because it shows up on Yahoo does not mean one is getting "fully informed" about the issue.

These debates are much ado about nothing as far as I am concerned. I plan not to watch them.
