In Memoriam

C'mon guys, doesn't anyone have a kind word to say for the dearly departed Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church? He who was the personal messenger of God. Without good ol' Fred how would we know that God hates us? How would we know that God hates America for being so lenient towards us?

I have something to say to the Fredster: You warped motherf***er, I hope that you burn in Hell forever. And I don't even believe in Hell. But for you I'll make an exception.

  • 'll be better than you were Fred...simply by saying, Rest in Peace. If you are able to find it

It’s hard to know how to react to the news of the passing of someone that’s caused pain. The knee jerk reaction may be to celebrate or mock the death of a man that spread so much hate. By no means can I tell you how to feel, but what is it that makes us feel this way? Does the hate in one person justify having an equal or even greater hatred for them?

We don’t know if during the final days of his life he realized how much pain he had caused or what an anger-fueled life he had lived. Did he see something that let him know there was a greater good in the world? Does it even matter?

Again, I know he’s been responsible for unspeakable damage, but there’s just something tragically ironic about shouting, “Enjoy hell you godless monster!” in response to the death of a man we hated because he would go to the funerals of those he hated and yell the same thing. - Bob Fee

  • I read today about someone making a donation to PFlag in memory of Fred Phelps and the Westboro Church.
    Thought it was great

  • I try not to wish ill will towards any individual or take glee at someone's death, but this guy was so hateful and caused genuine heartache and grief for many that I'm not sad to see him gone. The world is a better place today without him.

I'm in mind with aliencubby, I think a kiss-in coupled with lots of love would be the appropriate response at his funeral.

  • Let's not forget he not only spread hate against gays, he also picketed funerals for members of our armed forces, The families of our fallen hero's have suffered a great loss and did not need this publicity.
Maybe all these people will show up at your funeral Fred and celebrate the fact that you are dead!

  • Here's the scene: Fred arrives at heavens gate. St Peter say's can you wait over there Fred, God wants to have a word with you. God arrives: Peter the purpose of the church is to promote acceptance and spread love thought the land. You and your church failed me. you are not welcome in heaven, enjoy your eternity in HELL!

  • There could always be a different kinda picketing. LGBTQ folk kissing one another nearby. Surely, expressing love rather than hate isn't disrespectful, right?
Plus, it'll piss off the remaining WBC Klansmen.

  • Fred Phelps Obituary: He lived and he died. He is survived by his followers who hopefully will follow their leader into nothingness as soon as possible.
