I thought it was brilliant for all the reasons the direction mentioned. The acting in the moments when no one was speaking. 90% of the story and the characters were revealed through the eyes. You could feel their vulnerability. I thought it was beautiful.
I watched it, and quite enjoyed it - It had some very good performances and the cinematography was quite exquisite - specially considering the low budget. And it did touch upon some important issues - mainly the commentary on LGBTQ issues, denial, homosexuality and stereotypes in "rap culture", drug abuse, etc.
I wasn't too jazzed about the ending - it seemed rather abrupt, but other than that, it was a lovely movie.
I enjoyed it a lot more than I did La La Land.
