I've seen all the woman nominated for a Best Actress for the upcoming Oscars. Meryl Streep was as usual superb in August: Osage County. Judi Dench was remarkably believable in Philomena. Amy Adams in American Hustle was great. If they gave Oscars for breathing heavy, Sandra Bullock in Gravity would get it, but my guess she's lost in space.
BUT, by far the best performance by a Actress in a Leading Role has to go to Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine. At times it's hard for me to sit through just one showing of some movies, but I've seen Blue Jasmine 3 times so far. She plays a Ruth Madoff type woman who's husband made his millions from unsavory dealings of others (including Jasmines sister). She goes from having all the riches one could ever want with multiple homes and servants to shacking up with her sister and children in a San Francisco apartment. She's comes off so believeable as a pill popping boozer on the verge of a serious mental collapse. I fell in love with Cate Blanchett, that it lead me to another great movie of hers "Notes On A Scandal" a 2006 movie in which she star with Judi Dench.
With the cost of movies these days, it's good to see that some are actually good.

Judi Dench did a great job. We'll have to see who will get it.
I agree on Gravity, I didnt enjoy it much except the last 15 minutes were great. I think most actresses could have done Gravity. I didnt see Blue Jasmine but saw clips and Cate Blanchett was really good in what I saw.
