POPE FRANCIS PERFORMS MIRACLE......

In a stunning announcement John Boehner (BONER) says he's resigning as Speaker of the House. This announcement comes after an all day crying episode while meeting with The Pope. I guess miracles do happen and I am now a believer.......

  • I agree with Marc that it may be out or the frying pan into the fire. Boehner was more sane and centrist than most in that party. He and many more will be leaving as the radical right wing takes over. Most will become Independents, some may become Democrats, but I don't think those who leave or are thrown out will form a minority party; nobody has the stomach for that in today's contentious political atmosphere. BUT, those who remain in the paranoid, fearmongering, bigoted party that is left WILL be a minority party.

Certainly, McCarthy will be an even worse Speaker than Boehner. He has NO experience; he has sponsored only two bills since being elected. Both were bills to rename facilities in his district. At least Boehner put up a modicum of effort to counter the radicals on government shutdown, etc. McCarthy might be potentially easier prey for the radicals since he is vulnerable as he steps into that office. NObody has ever been so unprepared for that job which is third in line to replace the president in an emergency. Scary stuff - a gift to the nation from the right wing radicals.

  • Hmmm. So now Francis needs 1 more miracle to become a saint :)

The new speaker is expected to be Kevin McCarthy of California, a moderate like Boehner, so I don't know how much is going to change. But certainly Boehner's resignation may embolden the Tea Party types to be even more rebellious. Hey, Republicans, now you have to deal with the same reality that Democratic leaders have faced for a couple of decades -- leading a party that is like herding cats :)

I'm sure Boehner is stepping down because he was just fed up with being sabotaged at every turn by his party's right wing. He was actually trying to govern instead of just make noise. I have to give the man credit for trying.

And Manjo, most of the conservative Democrats either A. became Republicans or B. were targeted for extinction by Republicans and defeated.

Here in Texas, the GOP deliberately set out to redistrict all white Democrats out of office. They have largely succeeded.

  • Now, if only Obama would have gotten the kind of handshake from the Pope that Boehner did. Obama's end cannot come fast enough. It's so bad what our main political parties have come to: the Democrats are socialists and the establishment/elitist Republicans have moved too far to the left(that they're hardly distinguishable from conservative, even moderate Democrats of just a few decades ago).

  • Yeah, but I think good 'ol Mitch is going to replace him. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.

  • Call me a skeptic Dave, if the Pope had managed to get the other 233 in Boner's party to resign....that would have been a miracle. Certainly lacking in finesse, and taking the job at a hapless time, John-boy is probably tired of treading water. I'm not sad to see him go, but the tea baggers will see this as a victory--I think this is gonna unleash the crazies.
