WILL BOSTON BEAT THE RECORD?

Up until the beginning of January it was proving to be a uneventful winter and quite warm. It was in the low 50's the first week of the new year. Then out of the blue we were hit with a blizzard that dumped nearly 2 feet in Boston. The next weekend another foot and every weekend more and more snow piled up. It brought the city to it's knees (although I'm there most of the time anyway). Transit was at a stop. It showed how old and decrepit our subway system is. Boston is a contender for the in 2024. I love this city and think it couldn't really pull it off, and unless it improves some roads and transit system I can;t see it working. As it stands now Boston has had 107 inches of snow. The all time record is 109. This week they are calling for highs around 40 and Wednesday should hit 50. Even though spring starts next week, there is still plenty of winter left. I have seen snow here in May and I think before all is said and done we will break the record for snow fallen. I drove my car for the first time in over a month. It was completely buried and since parking spots are at a premium I was in no rush to get it out.

  • trucker, they are doing a good job cleaning things up and the warmer weather is making for a nice slow melt. Feel free to drop by and abuse me if you're in town......

  • Looking forward to celebrating brighter, longer, warmer days and the promise of spring at the annual St. Patrick's Day in Boston! ... Always a great time; but thinking it will be a real celebration this year after such a horrible winter. City seems to be doing an excellent job removing all the snow piled-up along the parade route!.... "Happy St. Patrick's Day" weekend and "Erin-Go-Bragh" Boston!

  • Fenway, it's good to see you posting again, if only to prove that you haven't sucummed to one of the worst winters in Boston history. Thanks for the pics as it gives a sense of how problematic it has been.

Here in Iowa, we often have a lot of snow, but it doesn't compare at all to what you have been through. We are in the upper 60s today and low 70s for tomorrow, so I am sending that weather your way with good wishes for a quick melt, but not too quickly as flooding can also be a bitch.

Good also to hear that you are still on your knees for worthy reasons. MMMMmmm

  • Well Bear, we've come this far we might as well.

  • Yeah, Fur, people think we don't get any winter here in TX, but that isn't true except in far South Texas. We get cold, snow and ice, too. Main difference between here and further north is it doesn't last too long!

And why didn't you come see me? :)

And Dave, that's not a record you want to break, is it?

  • Burr fenwaydav! You can have it. I came home from Texas last week; the week I spent in Texas the temperatures hovered in the low-20s, it blew, snowed, ice--ice!-- storms were part of the regular forecast, and the weather scale while there was shitty to really shitty. We desperately need precipitation here in CA, but I'll take it in rain, thank you, and you can have your record setting snow.

    Go Dodgers!

  • I always say that, you can always put enough clothes on to stay warm, but you can't take enough off to cool off.

  • Be of good cheer. Almost all of the 9 inches of snow that the Philadelphia area received last Thursday melted today with temps in the upper 50s. Before you know it this nightmare will be but a memory. Think twice before you bitch about the heat in August.

  • Its awful. This is my family home in Waltham. The pipes froze the other day and they had to use hair dryers to get it going again. Lots of people seem to have cabin fever
