IN THE WAKE OF HARVEY

My first thought was to not give a shit because of the response Ted Cruz and other republicans gave to Hurricane Sandy. He and others held back funds for the recovery effort and years later people are still not fully recovered. Then the pictures started coming in and my thought process has changed. These poor people aren't responsible for the ignorance of some politicians. How can you not be moved (and sometimes to tears) to see the destruction Harvey has caused. As always the case the elderly and poor seem to be hurt the worse. Yes Harvey didn't discriminate whether you were rich or poor and certainly plenty of mansions were underwater as well, but it was the nursing homes and hospitals and the thousands in shelters whose lives are damaged is some cases beyond repair that moves you to want to help. One of the local churches in the Boston area had a drive and many useful things were donated as well as a bunch of crap. Clothes that looked like it came out of a garbage bin was donated, as well as used toys and teddy bears. People don't need that shit. The best way you can help is to give to the Red Cross. If you are giving goods, unopened unused baby items are need most. This recovery will take years. We're a strong lot and I'm sure most will pull through. My prays and well wishes go out to our friends on DaddyDater who were in the path of Harvey. I hope your needs are being taken care of.

  • Thanks Dave. And yes folks, dont judge Texas by Ted Cruz, greg Abbott, Dan Patrick and the rest of that mean, cynical bunch that runs the state. BTW im a Texan and I thought the Charlie Hebdo cover about drowning Nazis funny. Too bad it isnt true. As Dave notes, the poor and elderly have taken the biggest hit from Harvey.
