This Monday is the one year anniversary of the shooting of the Pulse Night Club.
Thoughts and prayers go out to survivors and to the families of the 49. http://www.pulsenightclub.com
No doubt a tragedy but it should not have happened and was totally preventable just like San Bernadino. Every President for the last 50 plus years has put a temporary travel ban in place with little or no resistance. If the travel ban and immigration laws were enforced neither incident would have happened. Nothing against legal immigration but we need to get real. .We need to enforce existing gun laws.not use them as a threat.Stricter gun laws do not work. The revolving door of rehabilitation does nothing. Some individuals can NOT be rehabilitated and need to be dealt with on an individual basis and aggressively. Criminals want their victims disarmed. Criminals do NOT obey laws. Criminals do NOT take threats to enforce laws seriously. Criminals DO take stricter sentences seriously. Criminals DO fear an armed victim. Right after passing stricter gun laws Virginia had a 23% drop in homicides, 11% drop in robberies, 6%drop in burglaries. Other states had similar results. Mandatory sentences for violent and gun related crimes always results in a drop in crimes. I know this isn't the place to get political, and i DO apologize, but I see a lot of posts by intelligent people here but can not understand why they totally ignore the obvious. Again I apologize to all of you and the victims and their families. It was a waste of human lives. Thank you
CNN did a great job of dedicating the last minute of their broadcast to honor the 49. The local news anchors and reporters are all wearing the rainbow pins. Great support for our community
I remember this day like it was yesterday. I still think the Orlando police have not been made to answer for the decision to leave the shooter alone, still killing people for three hours inside the club. I can't imagine how horrifying that must have been for those trapped inside. Whatever supervisor made that tragic call should have been fired for it.
I hope the media marks this anniversary with the attention it deserves. So far that has not been the case, but there are still a couple of days left.
In the Boston Pride parade yesterday there was a float dedicated to the victims of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy. Some survivors were on the float and received the loudest screams of support. As a resident of Boston and living only a mile from the Marathon bombings I know first hand how we are all surrounded by this kind of senseless violence. They say we must continue to live our lives and not to give into the fear because to do so would be exactly what these criminals want. I try my best to live by this rule, but with an extra awareness of my surroundings. Unfortunately these attacks are going to continue to happen and no matter where we live we must try not to let it rule how we go on.
I hope the media marks this anniversary with the attention it deserves. So far that has not been the case, but there are still a couple of days left.
