as a gay catholic its hard and i used to ask the same question but if god really didnt want us around there would be a global gay wipe out if theres one thing ive learnd is that god is loving and will love no matter what we do or dont do just as long as we try our best to love him back and treat others the way we would like to be treated want respect give respect god isnt the hater its our fellow mankind who dont understand or choose not to understand useualy there the ones with the issues and end up being gayer than we are like the pastor who preaches to his congregation gay is evil and then goes to the gay bar later that night for a hook up......go figure
Love the speech! I love how eloquent and non-offensive the guy's talk was. Problem though, is that for a really long time, marriage has been associated with that "union before God" concept (of course, they conveniently ignore the non-Church marriages/ register marriages, etc). And since a large section of the society still has religious tendencies, it's hard to separate religion and marriages.
My solution? Enact a law which deems all unions, gay or straight, as civil unions when it comes to the legal ceremony. If they want, the ones interested can have a religious ceremony alongside if they want to satisfy their spiritual needs and call it a "marriage". That way, everyone will have a shot at equal unions! No big fuss, no complaints from the religious fundamentalists, no debate on a single word..
(But then again, that wouldn't happen, would it? lol)
I don't ask myself whether or not anyone actually wants me and other gay men and women around...Why should I? Should I? I have other more concrete worries to worry about, don't know about you....
Great video and article. I love the "pork & shellfish" reference in the text.
On the point related to "God creating gay people"... I was watching a old town hall meeting taped during the mid-80's at the height of AIDS freak out. One townie went to the mic to suggest that all gay people should be rounded up so they can't reproduce. I laughed. My mom and dad created me and they were far from gay.
