Being gay and a Boy Scout

So you can be a Boy Scout but by the time your adult they will turn you straight because you cannot be a leader and be a Boy Scout. How hypocritical . I guess they are going to turn you straight.

  • Rome wasn't built in a day. Human and Civil rights are an ongoing struggle. Battles are won and lost, but the war is never over. A compromise is the first step in the door, Onward!

  • I don't disagree that this is a political compromise and not a very good one but I also think it is an opportunity for those scouts past and present to step up and be real leaders of their communities as we and they assume they are. Their motto to "be prepared" is so very appropriate for this situation. Their leaders are shown to be totally "unprepared" and now the youth of this organization can step up and show that they are prepared to lead and are not the cowards that their national leaders have shown all the world they are.

  • What a slap in the face. We will make a man of you or banish you from organization. WoW that builds character. I would stay away from this organization if I were a young man. Stand tall in the real world and dump the BOY SCOUTS. They re not ready to ACCEPT REAL MEN ....they still want boys they can manipulate.

  • The version that passed was a political compromise struck to allow gay youth to openly serve in the Scouts. It isn't where it needs to be but it's a far cry from where it was.

The original compromise that was floated would have allowed gay youth and adults, but it would have allowed individual chapters to opt out. Nobody seemed to like that attempt, so they surveyed the membership and found this more acceptable.

Of course, it was in the Scouts' interests to get something done on the issue. Both membership and donations were way down with the gay ban in effect.
