LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- James Gandolfini, best known for his role of mob boss Tony Soprano in HBO's "The Sopranos," died of a heart attack in Italy, according to media reports Wednesday. Gandolfini, 51, was recently seen in the 2012 film "Zero Dark Thirty," about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.

  • Understand your point. A state day of mourning for an entertainer is a bit dicey. But I could see it more for Gandolfini, I think, than the other two. "The Sopranos" did a lot to raise Jersey's profile, and Tony was the symbol of the show.

  • James Gandolfini was really good and REALLY HOT in the 2001 crime comedy "The Mexican."

He played a supporting role as a gay hitman and stole the show!

Rest in peace, Jimmy! We'll all miss you!

  • Yeah, I was really shocked when I heard this. And only 51.

I thought he was SOOOO hot when The Sopranos first started. Less so as the series drug on and he got older and heavier, but always a powerful masculine presence. He reminded me of my own dad in many ways.

Sadly, there had been talk of a possible Sopranos movie or something like that, but I would imagine that's pretty much over with now. Doing the Sopranos without James Gandolfini would be like a Stones tour without Mick Jagger.

And I agree, he was VERY good in 8mm.
