I can't wait to see this! I read the book and I couldn't put it down, it was excellent.
If you've never heard of it The Hunger Games is set in the future. North America is destroyed and the new nation that rises is called Panem. Its a ruthless government that consists of a wealthy Capitol and 13 districts. The people are treated as slaves and are killed if they speak out against the Capitol.
District 13 rose up and started a rebellion against the Capitol and the District 13 was destroyed because of it. As a punishment to the rest of the districts and to remind the people to never try rebel against the Capitol, they created The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games is a televised event every year where one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 are picked by lottery and forced to fight to the death in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol. All the kids kill each other until only one remains, the remaining fighter is the winner.
For example one year they just put a bunch of kids on to rocks and gave them only Mace's to bludgeoned each other with and there were snake pits and quicksand traps. So these innocent kids all get killed until one is left.
Its really a great story and I'm excited about seeing the movie
I was kind of disappointed in Woody Harrelson's casting as Haymitch - I envisioned someone more like Brendan Gleeson in the role - but all in all still looking forward to seeing the movie.
Hunger Games is very similar to Running Man, but it's sadder because the kids are picked out of a lottery to kill each other. I think the story is richer as well.
>>By far one of the best book series I've ever read, and can't wait for March 23rd!<< Woo hoo! I am going to read Catching Fire next.
