What do you think? Would you drive one?

I always loved that movie iRobot where the cars drive themselves and wanted to be in one.

However check out the video below and fast forward to 2:20 to see it in action. She doesnt look very comfortable in that car lol

  • But thats the great thing about this, people who were once bound to their homes will be able to have freedom. People who cant drive because they're visually impaired or have a disability or elderly will be able to drive.
Someday this will lead to 0 traffic accidents too.
With this the person has freedom and doesnt have to rely on others to take them out.

Its like having a 24/7 limo driver.
Its beta now but someday will be a dream I think. Love this idea.

  • I don't drive, a problem with depth perception. But now I can go out and buy a car, and let it drive me around...NOT!!!!

  • Oh, hell no. If I can't trust my computer not to crash, how in the hell are you going to trust a driverless car.

  • It is actually surprising to see it has taken this long to put something into play. Autopilot in planes has been around for quite awhile. So I can hear you say, there are not as many planes as cars and more space. It is about the technology. How far back does the technology go? Well I worked on a system in the Navy that could land a plane on the deck of an aircraft carrier in the mid 70's. Yep we could land a plane on the rolling deck of a carrier with a dead pilot.
I also helped to install a system for a printing company for a forklift delivery system, tho that system was not really that techncally advanced. There were wires in the floor for predetermined routes, it did have a computer system and sensors to determine if the path was clear and where to get the load and where to deliver.
I do think that the cost of retrofitting a car with current technology has been the stumbling block. Also would you pay to buy a new car with this if the cost was reasonable, and it didn't look like some hack job?
