a new danger

I have been watching and reading the right wing republican response to the great victory of President Obama and the victory of liberal inclusive ideas in this country. These responses are so bad that they frighten me------not for there crazy content but for what that response could cause

This is a demographically and idealogically different nation. It is inclusive, tolerant and essentialy desires fairness. If the far right continues to hold the Rebulication Party captive, we may we in for a more one party political system. That is dangerous.

  • Let's not forget that what we hear and what people think are two completely differnt things. We need to have faith (not religeous) in the American people to understand what they want and are willing to do to acheive it. We the people are still able to peacefully change our government despite the large amounts of money that was used to sell us snake oil. Now can we prevent some people from buying the snake oil? No we can't. We can expect that those that did will realize eventually that they did and want to make sure that they don't again in the future. We need to stay focus on what needs to be done and work to acheive those goals at the same time making sure we let the buyers are included in the communications. This doesn't mean we have to wait until they come to their senses. We can't wait as things need to be fixed asap. They are in the minority as the last election showed. The older white go to church crowd need to either get with the new America or they will become even more errelevant then they are. Just because the GOP is having problems and may go the way of the Whigs and earlier parties doesn't mean we are left with one party. There are several parties that are gaining people and may suplant the GOP that is why we have a democracy and according to the Mittster let them go bankrupt.

  • Already, the Speaker of the House (Boehner) and the GOP leader in the Senate (McConnell) have said they see the need to sit down and talk, but their early rhetoric sounds like they are sticking to their guns on not taxing the hugely wealthy folks they work for. The Grover Norquist pledge that so many GOPers signed to NEVER raise taxes is haunting the Congressmen now as we approach the ficcal cliff. Dear old Grover, one person, an unelected politician, is able to hold up progress toward solving economic problems for EVERYONE in this nation. This guy is similar to The Drugster (Rush Limbaugh), the ostensible head of the Republican Party. How will the GOP EVER get out from under that drug-addicted mouthpiece of hate?

Personally, I think the Congress should return to Simpson/Bowles and insist on both cuts and taxes. It's the "fair and balanced" way to do it.

Note: I used the Fux Noise slogan ("Fair and Balanced") advisedly since I seek to redeem those words in truthful parlance.

  • This election should have made it readily apparent to the GOP that its current formula for victory in presidential elections is in deep trouble.

Changing demographics have put formerly reliable Republican states like Nevada, Colorado and Virginia not only in play, but now leaning Democratic. The result is that the Republican candidate now has only a VERY narrow path to victory.

The GOP is going to have to broaden its appeal, but the problem is that the religious right and Tea Party types control the Republican primaries. I think the Republicans are going to have to moderate on social issues, but it's going to take some time and probably a number of more losses for enough of them to accept it.
